Belarus’ CEC plans to send observers to monitor presidential election in Russia

MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) - The Belarusian Central Election Commission is planning to take part in the monitoring of the presidential election in Russia, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina said in an interview to BelTA.

“If we receive an invitation, we will go. We have already received an intermediate one. Mrs Pamfilova (Chairperson of the Russian CEC – note by BelTA) extended me holiday greetings and said that an invitation will be sent shortly. I think we need to send our new members. Thus we are planning to send the Secretary of the Central Election Commission together and a member of the commission,” Lidia Yermoshina informed.

She also said that one of the citizens of the Republic of Belarus, who constantly attempts to participate in the elections, especially the presidential polls, sent an e-mail to Ella Pamfilova asking her to register him as a candidate to the President of the Russian Federation since he is a citizen of the Union State. “This citizen sent me a copy of the e-mail,” she noted.

The next election to the highest state post in Russia will be held on 18 March. The election campaign officially kicked off on 18 December 2017.
