Belarus calls for pragmatic approach towards EaP Riga Summit

MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) – Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei took part in a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Visegrad Group and the Eastern Partnership countries, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting was dedicated to the preparation of the EaP Summit in Riga on 21-22 May 2015. The ministers of foreign affairs discussed the prospects of the Eastern Partnership, opportunities for establishing a dialogue between the EU and the Eurasian Economic Union, other issues of European cooperation.

Vladimir Makei presented Belarus' position on the Eastern Partnership, emphasizing the need for a non-confrontational, pragmatic approach towards EaP Riga Summit.

The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs met with senior officials of the European Commission, as well as ministers of foreign affairs of the EU member states and the EaP partner countries. The parties discussed the state and prospects of the development of the Belarus-EU dialogue and bilateral cooperation.

During the visit Vladimir Makei held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajcak. The parties considered opportunities for developing bilateral cooperation, as well as interaction between Belarus and the EU.
