Belarus’ best practices in achieving SDGs promoted internationally

Belarus’ best practices in achieving SDGs promoted internationally

MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) – The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) not only brings international best practices to Belarus but also promotes Belarus’ experience in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the international level, UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus Alexandra Solovieva said in an interview with the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The UNDP Belarus country office provides both financial and consulting assistance in implementing various projects and brings international best practices to Belarus. “At this stage, the issue of promoting Belarusian practices to other countries has become relevant. We would like to note that Belarus has gained considerable experience in achieving SDGs as the country instituted the post of the national coordinator for SDGs and developed a system of regional coordination, youth engagement and measurement of the results in the SDGs to make sure they become a reality,” Alexandra Solovieva said.

The new UNDP country program in Belarus for 2021-2025 will highlight such areas as green economy, digitalization, and strengthening Belarus’ position at the international level, including in the field of achieving the SDGs, Alexandra Solovieva noted. It will also give attention to social matters: improving living standards and ensuring inclusive growth.

The UN member states passed the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015. The Agenda includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals which are a commitment to eradicate poverty and hunger, inequality and injustice, and prevent climate change. The Agenda 2030 is a comprehensive strategy to improve people’s living standards and ensure development and consumption without detriment to future generations. All 17 goals are adapted for Belarus as well.
