Belarus attends UN Security Council Open Debate

MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations Valentin Rybakov took part in the UN Security Council Open Debate on Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Strengthening Multilateralism and the Role of the United Nations, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event was chaired by the People’s Republic of China and touched upon a number of pressing problems and challenges that the modern world is facing: the effectiveness of the UN response to conflicts, the role of collective action in maintaining stability and security, overcoming the “crisis of confidence” between countries.

Valentin Rybakov commented on the need to strictly follow the principles of multilateralism in international relations, which is a guarantee of mutual understanding and respect. He also stressed the contribution of Belarus to maintaining regional security, including through the facilitation of the negotiation process to resolve the crisis in south-eastern Ukraine.
