Belarus attends UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva

MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation led by Belarus’ Permanent Representative in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich is taking part in the 31st session of the UN Human Rights Council that kicked off in Geneva on 29 February, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The session comprises nine themed discussions, including an annual meeting on the rights of the child, an interactive debate on the rights of persons with disabilities, on human rights and HIV/AIDS epidemic. The participants of the debates will also discuss the use of experience and other assistance from the international community in advancing human rights to the national state and political systems.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the UN Human Rights Council the High-Level Segment session hosted the speeches of President of the UN General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Irina Bokova, Administrator of the United Nations Development Program Helen Clark, UNFPA Executive Director Babatunde Osotimehin.
