Belarus, Armenia to step up interaction in EAEU, CIS

MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Armenia Aleksandr Konyuk has presented copies of his credentials to Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ara Aivazian, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

Aleksandr Konyuk and Ara Aivazian discussed prospects of further expansion of Belarus-Armenia relations and prospects of more vigorous cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The sides also talked about the intensification of Belarus-Armenia cooperation in economy, manufacturing, culture, and innovations.

Aleksandr Konyuk was appointed Belarus’ ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Armenia on 19 November 2020. In the course of the appointment procedure Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that Belarus’ relations with Armenia are excellent.

Belarus-Armenia diplomatic relations were established on 11 June 1993. The Belarusian embassy in Yerevan was opened in September 2001. The Armenian embassy in Minsk started working in 1993. Belarus-Armenia relations reached new heights once the diplomatic relations were established. The active political dialogue that the leaders of the two countries maintain both at the bilateral level and within the framework of multilateral international platforms represents an important factor in Belarus-Armenia cooperation.

The legal base of Belarus-Armenia relations now includes 75 international agreements (treaties).
