Belarus among authors of CIS information security strategy

Belarus among authors of CIS information security strategy

MOSCOW, 15 March (BelTA) – Belarus was among the architects of the CIS information security strategy, Oleg Makarov, the director of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies, said answering a question of a BelTA journalist.

The draft strategy was approved by the CIS Economic Council in Moscow on 15 March. Oleg Makarov presented this document during the session.

He noted that the document was drafted in cooperation with the Russian side. “The strategy was conceived as a model document as part of the parliamentary dimension,” Oleg Makarov said. Taking part in the development of the document on the part of Belarus were MPs and scientists working for the country’s law enforcement – representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the border service, KGB and experts.

According to Oleg Makarov, the strategy offers different and detailed definitions of information security, or the so-called information sovereignty, for a personality, society and state. “As for threats, there are no sensations here. We do not single out any new threats, but speak about a system of threats that are listed in detail. These are technology threats for networks, psychological threats, etc. It is important that this document is detailed and systemic and offers not only definitions of threats, but also ways to challenge them,” Oleg Makarov said.

Speaking about fake news, Oleg Makarov noted that the strategy does not mention fake news; however, it provides a detailed analysis of information security matters and incorporates them into the legal framework, which is the best way to combat fake news.
