Belarus against pressure in dialogue about human rights

MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – The dialogue about human rights cannot proceed under pressure. It should only proceed in a benevolent atmosphere, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas during the media briefing dedicated to the United Nations Day on 24 October.

Andrei Dapkiunas remarked that Belarus is worried about the problem of human rights, respect for human rights in the country and abroad. “But we clearly and strongly understand how a dialogue should proceed. It cannot proceed under duress. It cannot proceed when rights of countries are disrespected. It can proceed only in a kind and sincere direction. Countries, which are UN friends, are trying to build such mechanisms. It’s a shame that today’s mechanisms are not completely on par,” said the official.
