Andreichenko urges to give impetus to Belarus-Laos cooperation

MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) – We need to accelerate the implementation of the Belarus-Laos joint economic projects, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko told reporters after the session of the joint intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation, BelTA has learned.

"The trade between our countries has increased, but the numbers are small. The projects, which were approved by the Presidents of Belarus and Laos (during the visit of Lao President Choummaly Sayasone to Belarus in 2013 – note by BelTA) remain unimplemnted. Now the aim is to give new impetus to our cooperation,” said the Speaker.

According to Vladimir Andreichenko, the formation of the commodity distribution network in Laos, industrial cooperation, establishing assembly plants are key issues on the bilateral agenda. "Laos has large reserves of minerals, and we agreed on the establishment of a laboratory to explore the quality of mineral resources. Unfortunately, it has not yet been established,” the Speaker said. “We can do minerals prospecting in that country, but the issue is not yet resolved. There was the agreement to set up an enterprise to make baby food from Belarusian raw materials, but this matter has not been fully resolved either,” he noted.

There is potential for cooperation in the field of education, and Belarus is ready to train students from Laos. "We need to make some the adjustments and establish a more fruitful interaction," he said.

"Belarus attaches great importance to developing relations with Laos and is ready to make concrete steps," said the Chairman of the House of Representatives.
