Amendments by Belarusian MPs in resolutions of OSCE PA general committees

MINSK, 9 July (BelTA) – Amendments made by Belarusian MPs have been included into resolutions of the general committees of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA), the press service of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus told BelTA.

As part of the 27th annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Berlin on 9 July members of the Belarusian parliament delegation contributed to the work of the OSCE PA general committees on political affairs and security, on economic affairs, science, technology, and environment, and on democracy, human rights, and humanitarian questions. Three resolutions by the OSCE PA general committees were proposed to parliamentarians as well as additional resolutions dealing with various matters, including trafficking in humans, terrorism prevention, promotion of interrelatedness in the OSCE region by means of development of transport connections and corridors, interrelatedness and conjugation of integration processes in the OSCE region. Belarusian parliamentarians suggested a number of amendments to the draft resolutions of the general committees. Most of them were backed by OSCE PA members and were included into resolutions of the OSCE PA general committees.

Member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Rakhmanov made a speech during the session of the OSCE PA General Committee on Democracy, Human Rights, and Humanitarian Questions. He stated that international efforts to promote and protect rights and human freedoms should be aimed at bolstering the measures the countries take at the national level. It is also important to avoid politicizing the topic and rely on principles of impartiality and mutual respect.

During the session Belarusian MPs met with heads and members of delegations sent by Russia, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Austria, Germany, Armenia, and other OSCE participating states. Topical aspects of interparliamentary interaction in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly were discussed.

BelTA reported earlier that a delegation of the Belarusian parliament led by Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk is taking part in the annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Berlin. The theme of this year’s annual session is “Implementing OSCE commitments: The role of parliaments.” The session is focused on the effective legislative measures the member states are expected to take in order to bolster international cooperation and honor commitments with regard to supporting peace and security in the OSCE region. The session will end on 11 July with the election of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly functionaries and the adoption of the Berlin declaration. The document will include three resolutions of the general committees and a number of supplementary resolutions.
