Aliyev thanks Belarus for its stance on conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – I would like to thank Belarus for its stance on the settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev told the media after his meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk on 19 November, BelTA has learned.

“On behalf of the Azerbaijani people and personally, I would like to thank Belarus for its stance on the settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. We are grateful to Belarus for such an objective position on the issue which is extremely important for us and the whole region,” said Ilham Aliyev.

The joint statement signed after the talks reflects the position of the presidents of Belarus and Azerbaijan. “Referring to the ongoing efforts within the OSCE framework and also the activities of the Minsk Group to achieve a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the parties stress the need to intensify further steps in this direction,” the document says.

In the joint statement Ilham Aliyev and Alexander Lukashenko also stressed the importance of early peaceful settlement of the conflict in accordance with the generally recognized principles and norms of international law, first of all, the sovereign equality of states, the inviolability of borders, territorial integrity, and also relevant UN Security Council resolutions and OSCE decisions.
