6th Forum of Regions to discuss joint Belarus-Russia youth, cultural projects
MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – Joint youth, cultural and humanitarian projects will be discussed at the 6th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, which is due to take place in St. Petersburg on 16-18 July. The draft agreement of the event, themed sections and other issues were discussed by the organizing committee of the forum at the Council of the Republic on 29 March, BelTA has learned.
On 17 July the forum will feature six sections. The organizing committee led by its Chairperson, Vice Speaker of the Council of the Republic Marianna Shchetkina discussed the theme of every section. The participants of the meeting voiced their ideas and proposals which Belarus could offer to Russia at the joint meeting of the organizing committees. The joint meeting is scheduled for early April.
One of the sections will highlight the implementation of joint youth projects in different areas, including economy and IT.
The forum will focus on cultural and humanitarian cooperation. As was noted at the meeting of the organizing committee, it is appropriate to consider projects of the Union State, regional projects, cooperation between theaters, libraries, museums. The participants of the meeting also suggested themes of national identity and basic values.
According to Marianna Shchetkina, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko suggested at the plenary session of the 5th Forum of Regions in Mogilev that the next forum highlighted the matters related to the youth, education, culture, creative development, patriotic upbringing, and healthy lifestyle.
St. Petersburg will host a youth forum and a meeting of the Council of the Youth Chamber under the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State.
It is expected that a joint meeting of the national business councils and a meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission on interregional cooperation of the Federation Council of Russia and the Council of the Republic of Belarus will take place on the sidelines of the forum. On 18 July, the speakers of the upper houses of the parliaments of the two countries will meet with representatives of the government bodies of Belarusian oblasts and Russian subjects ahead of the plenary session of the forum.
The Forum of Regions is an annual event held in Belarus and Russia on a rota basis. It is organized by the upper houses of the parliaments of the two countries – the Council of the Republic and the Federation Council. The 5th Forum of Regions was held in Mogilev in October 2018.
