18 countries to attend CEI PA session in Minsk

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – All 18 countries are expected to attend the November session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Central European Initiative in Minsk, Sergei Rakhmanov, Chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, told the media on 1 June, BelTA has learned.

“According to the estimates of the organizers, all 18 countries will take part in the PA session and delegations are expected to be big,” said Sergei Rakhmanov.

In his words, the date of the future meeting is currently discussed. However, it is already known that it will take place after 6 November due to a busy schedule of CEI MPs.

According to Sergei Rakhmanov, the forthcoming talks will go beyond the framework of routine inter-parliamentary interaction. Apart from official events and interesting reports, foreign guests will be treated to a program full of visits to different Belarusian companies.

Another milestone event, the meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the countries of the Central European Initiative, will take place in Minsk on 22 June. The CEI foreign ministers will discuss migration, matters related to the economic situation that influences everyday life, for instance, unemployment, including that among young people.

“We have no doubts that by the end of the year we will reach a higher level of relations in the European community in general and with the CEI member states in particular,” Sergei Rakhmanov said.

Belarus’ CEI presidency was assumed in 2017 and is designed to promote compatibility in a wider Europe. The country is set to bolster and expand ties between the CEI states and different integration platforms, including the EU, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Eastern Partnership and other organizations. At present the initiative unites 18 countries.
