Candidates for Belarus presidency


Four candidates are running for the post of the President of the Republic of Belarus in 2015.

Sergei Gaidukevich

Sergei GaidukevichBorn: in Minsk on 8 September 1954.

Education:

1976 Minsk Higher Engineering School of Anti-Aircraft Missile Defense
1989 Zhukov Air and Space Defense Academy

Career:

1982-1983 foreign deployment as part of the USSR army.
1976-1991 command positions in the USSR army.
1992-1994 head of the coordinating committee of the political bloc People's Movement of Belarus.
1992-1994 position in the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus. Head of the Committee under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus.
1995-present leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party of the Republic of Belarus.

Elected member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on 17 October 2004.

Tatiana Korotkevich

Tatiana KorotkevichBorn: in Minsk on 8 March 1977

Education:

Maxim Tank Belarusian State Pedagogical University (Department of Psychology)
Belarusian State University (Master’s degree program)

Career:

A psychologist at a college and later at the State Institute of Management and Social Technologies of the Belarusian State University. Length of teaching experience – 11 years

Head of the department of social adaptation and rehabilitation at the territorial social service center in Leninsky District of Minsk.

Director of the social institution Family Platform for the last two years.

Ran for Parliament in the Kalvariysky constituency of Minsk (2012).

Member of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Gramada).

For the past six years has been supporting the civil campaign Tell the Truth.

Family:

Married, has a son.  

Alexander Lukashenko

Alexander LukashenkoBorn: in the village of Kopys, Orsha District, Vitebsk Oblast, on 30 August 1954.

Education:

1975 A.A. Kuleshov Mogilev State University (history major)
1985 Belarusian Agricultural Academy (economy major)

Career:

1975-1977 service in the border troops; 1980-1982 service in the USSR Army.

After the army service worked in the Komsomol and Communist Party bodies; deputy head and head of enterprises specializing in the manufacture of construction materials and agribusiness of the BSSR.

Elected member of the Supreme Council of the BSSR in 1990.

Elected President of the Republic of Belarus on 10 July 1994. Re-elected President of Belarus in September 2001, March 2006, December 2010.

Family:

Father of three.

Nikolai Ulakhovich

Nikolai UlakhovichBorn: in Minsk on 21 August 1951.

Education:

1969 – Minsk Vocational School of Architecture and Construction
1974 – Simferopol Higher Military-Political Construction School
1984 – Ivanovo State University
1992 – Volgograd Institute of Engineering and Construction

Career:

Served in the USSR army. Participated in the construction of the Baikonur Cosmodrome, was awarded the title of Honorary Baikonur Builder. Retired colonel. After retirement, held several executive positions at Belarusian government agencies.

At present, serves as Deputy Chairman of the Construction Division at the Minsk Oblast Consumer's Association.   

Initiated the establishment of the public association Belarusian Cossacks in 1995. Leader of the Belarusian Patriotic Party since 1999.

Family:

Married. Father of two, grandfather of five.
