Yermoshina: Current election campaign more active, more visual in media

MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) - The current election campaign is more active and more visual in mass media, head of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina told the media, BelTA has learned.

When asked about the difference of the current election campaign to Parliament with the previous one, Lidia Yermoshina noted that the main difference is “the amendments that have been introduced to the electoral legislation, mass participation of representatives of the political parties till the end of the campaign, more vigorous TV debates and appearances.”

“In general, this campaign is more visual in media and more active than the one held four years ago,” she said.

Lidia Yermoshina also reported that during the five-day early voting the turnout was over 31%. The highest turnout was in Gomel Oblast - over 35%; least of all - in the city of Minsk and Brest Oblast. “All in all 2.100 million people voted in early voting. “I compared this data with the data from four yeas ago, i.e. the 2012 parliamentary elections. In absolute terms, the turnout was 300,000 voters fewer. Namely, more than 1.8 million people took part in the early voting,” Lidia Yermoshina informed.
