MINSK, 17 December (BelTA) - Russian political scientist, PhD in Political Science Dmitry Evstafiev has given his view on potential Belarus-U.S. cooperation in potash fertilizers in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.

“I believe it is possible. Moreover, this would be precisely what Trump understands as a deal. A deal advantageous to him: he creates (and he is absolutely sincere in this) an opportunity for Belarus to earn money on the U.S. market, where a serious fertilizer shortage could indeed arise,” Dmitry Evstafiev said.

The political scientist emphasized that the potential fertilizer shortage is indeed being discussed in the U.S. media space and among American farmers. This is partly due to the trade tariffs U.S. President Donald Trump imposed on Canada, the primary U.S. supplier of potash fertilizers. In this regard, Dmitry Evstafiev drew attention to the structure of the recent deal between Minsk and Washington.

“Trump gets potash fertilizers. Belarus, from his point of view, gets additional revenue. In doing so, Belarus gives away something Trump doesn’t need - the so-called political prisoners. Neither Trump nor Belarus needs them. They are handed over to Europe, where Trump’s political side of the issue is of limited interest,” he said.

Dmitry Evstafiev expressed confidence that the head of the White House would adhere to a similar approach in all other areas as well, including in relations with the Union State.
