Vietnam determined to strengthen cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) - The leadership and the people of Vietnam are determined to strengthen cooperation with Belarus, Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang told the media after the talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

“Vietnam and Belarus traditionally maintain friendly relations. There is huge potential for cooperation in many areas. I want to reiterate the willingness and determination of the leadership and the people of Vietnam to advance the efficient cooperation with Belarus in the interests of both countries,” Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang said.

The president described his meeting with the Belarusian head of state as open, trust-based and fruitful. The two leaders shared their views on the status and prospects of bilateral cooperation. “We appreciate good political relations and trust between the two countries which has strengthened over 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992,” he said.

One of the main topics on the agenda, according to the Vietnamese leader, was the ways to bolster trade, economic and investment cooperation. In the coming years, Belarus and Vietnam are set to raise the bilateral trade to $500 million. An agreement was reached to develop cooperation in defense and security, education, culture, science and technology, sports and tourism.
