U.S. Charge d'Affaires: Good prospects for U.S.-Gomel Oblast cooperation

U.S. Charge d'Affaires: Good prospects for U.S.-Gomel Oblast cooperation

GOMEL, 27 October (BelTA) – There are good prospects for cooperation between the United States and Belarus' Gomel Oblast in different fields, including economy, culture, and education, U.S. Charge d'Affaires to Belarus Scott Rauland told journalists on 27 October as he took part in events of the UN initiative UN70 Belarus Express for Sustainable Development Goals in the Belarusian city of Gomel, BelTA has learned.

Scott Rauland noted that strong ties have already been developed with the Gomel Oblast library and the universities of the city. The diplomat stressed that Belarusian educational institutions provide a very high level of education. “As for IT technologies, many young Belarusians are willing to work in this field. The country only needs to attract big companies,” Scott Rauland believes.

“As far as economy is concerned, American companies are likely to be interested in cooperation with the Hi-Tech Park,” he noted.

On 27 October, U.S. Charge d'Affaires to Belarus Scott Rauland met with Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Dvornik. The parties discussed environmental issues, the development of nature reserves, and promotion of agricultural tourism in the region. Besides, they talked over the organization of events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Some of the events will be attended by U.S. representatives.

Scott Rauland will also visit boarding school No.5 of Gomel, meet with employees of the Gomel Oblast Universal Library, and go to a concert of the country music band Blended 328.
