UNWTO ready to help Belarus switch to e-visas

UNWTO ready to help Belarus switch to e-visas

MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – The World Tourism Organization is ready to assist Belarus with switching to electronic visas, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai said in an interview with the STV channel on 9 July, BelTA learned.

“Belarus needs to increase the period of visa-free stay for foreign tourists,” Taleb Rifai noted. “It is much more profitable to attract tourists who can come for a longer term. Foreign nationals would like to stay here a bit longer. You do not need to expand the list of countries eligible for your visa-free entry program. You just need to switch to the electronic visa application system,” he noted.

“The system is safe and convenient. A tourist can pay for the visa online right away and, for example, get a code and use it to enter the country,” Taleb Rifai noted. “Many countries already use such a mechanism, and it works well,” he added. If you switch to e-visas now, it will save you much time in the future. The World Tourism Organization is ready to offer you assistance, Taleb Rifai emphasized.

According to him, eco-tourism is a promising sector for Belarus, a country with a very beautiful nature. Belarus has something to show to foreign tourists, for instance, birdwatching tours. “Belarus can focus on cultural, culinary and medical tourism,” Taleb Rifai added.
