UNICEF representative: Belarus brings many constructive proposals to the UN activity

BREST, 26 October (BelTA) – The UN70 Express train that is making a trip around Belarus to promote the Sustainable Development Goals has made a stop in Brest, BelTA informs.

The Declaration of Commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals was signed as soon as the train arrived at the Brest-Tsentralny railway station. Attending the signing ceremony was Brest Oblast Vice Governor Mikhail Serkov and UNICEF representative to Belarus Rashed Mustafa Sarwar. “Belarus is an active participant in the UN activity. Your country introduces a lot of constructive proposals to the UN. This partnership is important and valuable for us as we always need advice, fruitful discussion. It is the essence of cooperation,” the UN representative said.

Over the past years a lot of important projects have been implemented in Brest Oblast in cooperation with the UN and the European Union. We will continue this work and actively involve budgetary organizations. I hope the society will greatly benefit from our cooperation,” the Vice Governor said.

While in Brest, the participants of the initiative timed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the United Nations will discuss the issues of gender equality and education. The Brest State University named after A.S.Pushkin will host the science-to-practice seminar “The UN’s 70th anniversary and the ways to further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the peoples”. The oblast youth creativity center will play host to numerous master classes, roundtables, exhibitions, presentations and trainings. More events will be held on other venues of the oblast center.

Brest is the second city where the UN70 Express train has made its stop. The train will next head to Gomel.
