Ukrainian journalist: Ukraine looks at Minsk with big hope and gratitude
GOMEL, 17 February (BelTA) – Ukraine looks at Minsk with a big hope and gratitude as the country considers the Belarusian capital the biggest peacekeeper in the notorious conflict, First Secretary of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine Sergei Tomilenko told BelTA in Gomel on 17 February. He is taking part in a press tour of Gomel Oblast for Ukrainian journalists on 17-18 February.
In his words, concerns are still present in his country regarding the full implementation of the Minsk agreements of 12 February. According to him, the Ukrainian society expresses big trust in the leaders of Germany, France and Belarus, but unfortunately, there is no such trust in its eastern neighbor. “We see that the position of the President and the whole Belarusian nation is aimed at supporting the Ukrainian people,” Sergei Tomilenko stressed.
Speaking about the press tour, the journalist noted that the trip to the friendly neighbor aroused a big interest among its participants. The trip was planned for last year but was postponed. “Today, our interest and the interest of the Ukrainian audience in Belarus have increased taking into account your country’s contribution to the peace efforts and support of Ukraine,” said the First Secretary of the National Union of Journalists.
The Ukrainian delegation comprises about 30 journalists representing nationwide and regional TV channels and printed sources. Reporters have come from Kiev, Lviv, Kirovograd, Cherkassy, Poltavy, Donetsk and other oblasts.
The major goal of the trip is familiarization with the south-east region of Belarus. The program of the press tour will include a visit to a number of industrial companies and social infrastructure facilities.
