Tkachev: Belarus remains Russia’s key partner in agricultural trade

MOSCOW, 13 May (BelTA) – Belarus has always been and remains Russia’s most important partner in the trade of agricultural produce, Russia’s Minister of Agriculture Alexander Tkachev said in a meeting with Agriculture and Food Minister of Belarus Leonid Zayats in Moscow on 13 May, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Russian ministry.

“It was determined by history that this proportion tilts to Belarus’ favor. This balance should be gradually leveled off. I view as important to continue active and fruitful work on increasing the trade between the two countries,” Alexander Tkachev noted.

In 2014 the agricultural trade between Belarus and Russia went up by more than 3%. Russia’s main exports to Belarus include cereals, chocolate, fish and seafood. Belarus exports milk and dairy products, cheese, sausages, tinned fish and meat to Russia.

“The parties stressed that an important aspect of bilateral cooperation is a regular monitoring of the implementation of the coordinated forecast demand and supply balance sheets of the Union State for dairy and meat products for 2015,” the press service said.

Belarus and Russia have also been developing cooperation in the agrarian science, personnel training and exhibition activities.
