Timofti: Great Patriotic War museum in Minsk is a true historical monument to war years

MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War is a true historical monument to the war years, reads the message left by Moldova President Nicolae Timofti in the book of distinguished guests of the museum, BelTA has learned.

"It was with great interest that I got familiar with the rich exposition of the museum which leaves no one indifferent. The exhibits vividly tell of the enormous difficulties and irreparable losses that the Belarusian nation had to suffer during the war. The museum is a true historical monument to the war years, thanks to which the generations of people will continue to live remembering the sacrifices that were made in the name of the great victory in the most terrible and bloody war in the history of mankind,” Nicolae Timofti wrote in the book of distinguished guests. He also noted that he bows before all those who, at the cost of untold hardship and often life, fought against the enemy in the ranks of the army, guerrilla groups or worked in the rear.

"I wish that we lived in peace that leaders of the states did everything to preserve peace on Earth. This is the most important thing. Everyone knows that wars mostly end in peace... But I don't understand why people begin wars in times of peace," the President of Moldova said after visiting the museum. He also noted that he talked about this during the meeting with the President of Belarus. "We must do everything to preserve peace so that our countries would prosper," said Nicolae Timofti.

Moldova President Nicolae Timofti is in Belarus on an official visit from 16 to 17 July. The delegation also includes representatives of the government and ministries of the country.

On 24-25 September 2014, Belarusian President paid a visit to Moldova. Back then the presidents of the two countries agreed to expand trade and economic cooperation. According to Alexander Lukashenko, promising areas of cooperation between Belarus and Moldova is industrial cooperation to access the markets of third countries and the EU and to boost the bilateral trade. He drew attention to the fact that Moldova already assembles Belarusian agricultural equipment and trolleybuses. The bus assembly project is next in line.

The Belarusian head of state underlined that Belarus is ready to meet the needs of Moldovan counterparts in engineering and petrochemicals goods, light industry products, building materials, household appliances, medicines and food. Moreover, Belarus would like to participate in road infrastructure and agriculture projects in Moldova.
