Tight cooperation with World Bank indicates Belarus’ investment appeal

MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) – The level of cooperation between Belarus and the World Bank is an important indicator of the country’s investment appeal. The statement was made during the latest meeting of First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vasily Matyushevsky and the World Bank’s Country Director for Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine Qimiao Fan, the press service of the Belarus government told BelTA.

During the meeting the sides noted a considerable increase in the amount of credit resources granted to Belarus in the last two years. “The level of cooperation secured with the World Bank group is described as an important indicator of our country’s investment appeal, reliability, and predictability,” BelTA has been told.

Participants of the meeting discussed progress in implementing the World Bank’s investment portfolio in Belarus, the preparation of the intermediate report on implementing the World Bank’s current strategy in Belarus in the 2014-2017 financial years and promising avenues of mutual cooperation.

The World Bank was founded in 1944. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C., USA. The Bank comprises five organizations: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency and the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes. The World Bank operates more than 120 offices worldwide. Since the Republic of Belarus joined the World Bank in 1992, lending commitments to the country have totaled $1.5 billion. In addition, a number of programs have been supported via grants.
