MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – Belarus welcomes ambitious plans of the Swedish business to expand trade with Belarus and inject more investment into the Belarusian economy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Sweden Dmitry Mironchik said at a reception in the run-up to the centennial anniversary of Belarus’ diplomatic service and on the occasion of Christmas and New Year celebrations, BelTA has learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Stockholm.

Dmitry Mironchik reviewed the work of the diplomatic mission after it was re-established as a full-fledged embassy a year ago. He noted that the bilateral trade is gaining momentum and expanded by more than a quarter since the start of the year. As far as the centennial anniversary of the Belarusian diplomatic service is concerned, Dmitry Mironchik noted that it was rather symbolic that the reception in Stockholm was held on the same day as the flag of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus was solemnly hoisted in Minsk.

Head of the Department for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden Andreas von Beckerath welcomed the reengagement between Belarus and Sweden. The representative of the Swedish foreign ministry emphasized that despite the existing differences, Minsk and Stockholm maintain an open and comprehensive dialogue and have everything in place to expand cooperation, including trade, economic and interpersonal contacts.

Taking part in the event were heads of the Protocol Department and the Department for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, MPs, government officials, members of the Secretariat of the Council of the Baltic Sea States, business people, representatives of NGOs as well as the Belarusian diaspora in Sweden.
