Surikov: Russia, Belarus eternally grateful to veterans of Great Patriotic War

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – Russian and Belarusian people will be eternally grateful to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Belarus Alexander Surikov said during a meeting with those who defended Leningrad during the siege on 2 February, BelTA has learned.

“Russian and Belarusian people will always cherish in their hearts the memory of those days. We will be forever grateful to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War who fought for Leningrad with weapons in their hands in those years,” Ambassador Alexander Surikov said.

The meeting was dedicated to the anniversary of the end of the siege of Leningrad. “Those events happened 73 years ago. Russian and Belarusian people are deeply grateful and pay tribute to our soldiers who defended Leningrad during the siege,” said the diplomat.

Alexander Surikov also thanked the participants of the meeting for setting an example for the younger generations. “Many of you devote part of your free time to meet with young people, to work in public organizations telling people about those years and paying tribute to the feat of the Soviet people thanks to whom Russia and Belarus exist today,” the Ambassador noted.
