Stronger cooperation with Belarus named unconditional priority of Russia’s foreign policy

MOSCOW, 27 October (BelTA) – Stronger cooperation with Belarus is one of the unconditional priorities in Russia’s foreign policy. Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov made the statement during the joint session of the boards of the Belarusian and Russian ministries of foreign affairs in Moscow on 27 October, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Lavrov underlined that Belarus has ever been an ally and a strategic partner of Russia. He said that the session held on 27 October was supposed to approve a program for the concerted foreign-policy actions of Belarus and Russia in 2016-2017 and sum up results achieved by a similar program in 2014-2015.

Speaking about the agenda of the session, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs also mentioned prospects of Belarus-Russia cooperation in the United Nations Organization. “Our cooperation in the UN demonstrates virtually matching points of view on all the topical items on the international agenda,” he said. Sergei Lavrov thanked the Belarusian side for support in the international arena and said he hopes for further tight interaction between the two countries.
