Rybakov: Belarus invests in sustainable economic and social development of the society

MINSK, 9 February (BelTA) – Belarus has been investing in the sustainable economic and social development of the society, Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov said when speaking at the 54th session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development held in the UN Headquarters in New York, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Valentin Rybakov gave a speech at the plenary session of the commission on rethinking of the social development in the context of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. “Valentin Rybakov noted that today's investments of the Belarusian state in education, health care, professional training of population and creation of new opportunities for employment and decent work for youth will contribute to sustainable economic and social development of the society in the future,” the press service said.

“Belarus has been paying special attention to the social protection and promotion of human rights of the senior citizens, people with disabilities, young families and families with children,” the press service added. The deputy minister stressed the need to give due consideration to the traditional family, its wellbeing, interests and priorities in the process of rethinking of social development and building of sustainable society.

The Belarusian diplomat underlined that each of the 17 sustainable development goals, especially the goals and targets related to social development, could be achieved only given there is national, regional and global peace. Valentin Rybakov urged member states, UN bodies and all partners to strengthen mutual trust and mutually respectful dialogue, to work together to build a world of justice and equality, partnership and responsibility.

The Belarusian diplomat informed the participants about the National Sustainable Development Strategy, elaborated by the Government of Belarus in order to achieve sustainable development goals and targets.
