MOSCOW, 19 December (BelTA) - The security of the Union State of Russia and Belarus is in reliable hands and will be unconditionally ensured, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a major end-of-year news conference in Moscow, BelTA has learned.
The Russian president said that he watched the live broadcast of the Belarusian president's speech at the Belarusian People's Congress. “I must congratulate him. It was a very emotional, powerful and insightful speech. I want to express my gratitude to him for his assessment of the state of Russian-Belarusian relations,” Vladimir Putin said.
“Regarding the issues of security, we address them both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of the CSTO,” he emphasized. The Russian president recalled that in his speech at the Belarusian People's Congress Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke about the Oreshnik system and the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory. “We regularly conduct exercises. We have a joint group of forces and our defense ministries cooperate very closely with each other. The security of the Union State is in the reliable hands of our military and will be unconditionally ensured,” Vladimir Putin said.
