Prince Michael of Kent ready to promote mutual investment between Belarus, UK

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – Prince Michael of Kent is ready to promote mutual investment between Belarus and the UK. The member of the British Royal Family made the statement in an interview to the Belarus One TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The Prince of Kent hailed his visit to Belarus as successful. He named his meetings with the President of Belarus, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Belarusian bankers and the Transport Minister as fruitful. Prince Michael of Kent was, first of all, interested in the economic development of the country. The member of the British Royal Family stressed that he would focus on the increase of mutual investment between Belarus and the UK.

He is confident that there are many ways to step up economic and trade cooperation between Belarus and the UK. The Prince of Kent hopes for a visit at the level of the UK ministry next month. “In return we expect your minister in London. We can already speak about the start of new mutually beneficial relations between Belarus and the UK. I believe that trade is the most important link in the relations between the two countries,” said Prince Michael of Kent.

According to the Prince, over the last 25 years he has observed the development of the countries bordering on Russia, but has never been to Belarus before. “Now it is the best time to pay a visit to your country. Over a two-day visit I saw that you had made a giant step forward in the economic, trade, cultural relations,” he said.

Prince Michael of Kent believes that Belarus needs to be more active in advancing itself to the West and the East.

Speaking about his charitable activity, the Prince emphasized a road safety project, naming it an important undertaking and adding that the number of people that die on the road annually is hundred times higher than the number of those dying from malaria and cholera. “I have seen the positive results of your country’s activity in the area. The real situation has exceeded my expectations. The Belarusian road safety standards are much better than those in many countries I have been to,” he noted.
