Opinion: Mass Media in Belarus expo contributes to international cooperation

MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) – The Mass Media in Belarus expo has helped mass media outlets to strengthen international ties, Belarus’ Deputy Information Minister Pavel Lyogky said during the closing ceremony on 5 May, BelTA has learned.

“I hope that the circle of our friends has become much wider than before, and that our international ties have grown stronger. This is useful for our media, for their further development, exchange of experience and also for the friendship among peoples,” Pavel Lyogky said.

The deputy minister welcomed the work of regional mass media which are in focus of the information industry today. “I am very happy to note the work of our flagships who, as always, rose to the challenge and demonstrated their achievements in harnessing advanced technologies, high-quality journalism,” Pavel Lyogky said.

He added that the organizers have already started to plan the next edition of the Mass Media in Belarus expo. “I hope it will be as diverse in terms of participants and no less useful for you,” Pavel Lyogky noted.

This year’s Mass Media in Belarus expo gathered over 50 exhibitors in Minsk on 3-5 May. They represented about 400 mass media from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, China, Turkey, and other countries. It is the first time that mass media from the city of Salekhard, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area, Russia have been represented during the expo. The exhibition area exceeds 1,000m2.

The forum reflects the entire spectrum of the country’s mass media industry. It features printed and audiovisual national and regional mass media, websites, news agencies, cable television providers and distribution companies, distributors of printed products, and publishing houses. National and regional printed and digital mass media as well as specialized and agency-sponsored editions, newspapers published by universities and industrial enterprises, scientific organizations have prepared their own expositions.

Mass Media in Belarus has been held annually since 1997 by the Belarusian Information Ministry in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minsk City Hall, the Belexpo National Exhibition Center, other government bodies, the country’s leading mass media and public organizations.
