Myasnikovich: Manufacturing is key to success in Belarus-Russia regional cooperation

MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) – Success in promoting cooperation between the regions of Belarus and Russia is determined by close contacts in the manufacturing industry, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he met with Bryansk Oblast Governor Alexander Bogomaz and Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov on 9 November, BelTA has learned.

“The 5th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia brought to attention many issues. I would like to thank the governors who were brave enough to call for equal terms of competition for Belarus-Russia joint ventures and Russian companies. These are the governing principles of the Union State Treaty and these principles provide that the common market should be free from exemptions and restrictions. Naturally, although we live in the Union State, each of the participating countries seeks to support, protect and promote its interests. However, I believe that success lies in the tight manufacturing cooperation,” Mikhail Myasnikovich believes.

As it was noted during the Forum of Regions, the number one task for the two countries is to unify and harmonize the legislation. “If we make unification and harmonization work properly, I think it will benefit the both sides. The Belarus-Russia joint venture Bryanskselmash and the mechanical engineering cluster involving Minsk Tractor Works in Cherepovets should boost production. In the conditions when operation terms in the real economic sector change every year or every other year, this brings about new challenges for enterprises,” Mikhail Myasnikovich believes.
