Musiyenko: Abolition of sanctions will help Belarus develop economic cooperation with EU

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The abolition of most sanctions will help Belarus develop a full-fledged economic cooperation with the European Union, head of the analytical center ECOOM Sergei Musiyenko told BelTA.

“The abolition of the majority of sanctions against our country is the undoubtedly right decision of the EU. The European Union tries its best to face its face. The current development of the situation and Belarus’ behavior helped the EU both keep its face and annul the majority of restrictions. The Minsk initiatives to regulate the situation in Ukraine and many other things allowed the EU countries open their eyes and see Belarus from a different, better, side,” noted Sergei Musiyenko.

According to the political analyst, Belarus has been under sanctions for a long time and over the period its citizens got used with the idea. Although it was strange to see a peaceful country in the center of Europe facing restrictions.

“We got used with the idea but we lacked a full-fledged economic cooperation with the European countries,” he said.

“Although the cancelation of most sanctions has not resulted in contracts and investment inflow for us yet, it will help Belarus create the necessary climate to lure more investors into the country,” the expert believes.

“Any economic progress will be very much timely for us,” Sergei Musiyenko concluded.
