Minsk’s role viewed as crucial for trilateral contact group

MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) – The role and place of Minsk as a venue for the talks of the trilateral contact group is of great significance, Ukraine’s representative in the trilateral contact group Leonid Kuchma said as he met with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 5 June, BelTA has learned.

“Minsk is of colossal importance for the work of the trilateral contact group. You know that there has been a lot of talk about relocating the meetings to some other venue. This is absolute nonsense. Minsk has been chosen as the only place where normal dialogue is possible. Keeping in mind the attitude of the Belarusian authorities to the matter, it becomes twice as important,” Leonid Kuchma said.

“I am always happy to visit your beautiful country, to meet with the president, whom I respect mightily," he said.

Leonid Kuchma noted that the history and tomorrow call for joint solutions to the problems that Ukraine is currently facing. “Here we hope for the assistance of the president and Belarus,” Leonid Kuchma said.
