Max Siegel: The Match Europe v USA in Minsk will be star-studded

MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) – The Match Europe v USA in Minsk will no doubt be a star-studded meeting, said CEO for USA Track & Field Max Siegel, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Athletics Federation.

According to Max Siegel, Team USA will include many Olympic and world champions, as well as talented rising stars. Among them are Olympic champions Michelle Carter and Brianna McNeal, and many-time world titleholders Allyson Felix and Brittney Reese. The men's part of Team USA will include many national champions who are preparing for the upcoming IAAF World Championships in Doha (Craig Engels, Hillary Bor, Jeron Robinson, Sam Mattis and Conor McCullough).

Team Europe will also include a lot of famous athletes: world champions Pawel Fajdek, Ramil Guliyev, Mariya Lasitskene, Sandra Perkovic, Katerina Stefanidi and European champions Armand Duplantis and Paulina Guba, Michal Haratyk, Elvira Herman, Wojciech Nowicki, Paraskevi Papachristou, Thomas Rohler, Lea Sprunger, Justyna Swiety-Ersetic and Miltiadis Tentoglou. Belarus will be represented by 10 athletes, including Elvira Herman, Karina Demidik (Taranda), Maksim Nedasekau and Tatsiana Khaladovich.
  
The initiator of the match in Minsk, President of the European Athletics Association Svein Arne Hansen said that the European athletic stars were glad to accept the invitation to defend the honor of their continent. According to him, the fact that the Team USA will feature a very strong lineup will make the upcoming match a truly memorable event. He expressed confidence that such meetings would become regular in the world athletics calendar. “I want people to remember the first show in Minsk,” said Svein Arne Hansen.

Such events have not been held since 1960-1970s when intercontinental duels such as USSR v USA were popular.

The Match Europe v USA is due to take place at Minsk Dinamo Stadium on 9-10 September and will become the last big competitions ahead of the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha. The competitions will include hammer throw, javelin throw, discus throw, 100 meters, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 200 meters, 400 meters, 400m hurdles, 800 meters, 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters, 3,000 meters steeplechase, 4x100 meters relay, mixed relay (200-200-400-800 meters), shot put, triple jump, high jump, long jump, pole vault.

The total prize pot of the match is €818,000. The winner of the competition in each discipline will get €7,000, the silver medalist - €5,000, the bronze medalist - €4,000.

Eurovision Sport, which bought the broadcasting rights, will broadcast the match all over Europe. The match will be broadcast live on NBCSN and NBC Sports Gold TV channels in the USA.
