Makei: Minsk Agreements helped partners take a different look at Belarus

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The Minsk Agreements helped the partners take a different look at Belarus, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei said in an interview to the Belarus One TV Channel, BelTA has learned.

“The Minsk Agreements were praised by many politicians at this conference [the Munich Security Conference - BelTA]. The fact that the Minsk Agreements played their role in improving the situation in Ukraine is acknowledged by everyone. It is of critical importance that we could organize this platform for holding negotiations on Ukraine. I think it helped our partners take a different look at Belarus,” said Vladimir Makei.

Commenting on his participation in the Munich Security Conference, the minister noted that it was quite successful taking into account the number of meetings and their results. “We discussed the prospects for our political, trade and economic relations. I would like to say that in the overwhelming majority of issues we were able to find common understanding of how the situation was evolving and how we should build our relations in the future. It gives us certain confidence in being optimistic about the future,” the minister added.

In his words, despite a negative assessment of the current geopolitical situation there is no point in becoming dispirited. “Everyone state the presence of considerable difference of opinions between the world’s leading geopolitical players. At the same time many representatives of the world’s leading countries voiced the need to find mutually acceptable solutions at the common negotiating table. This encourages optimism. I hope these wishes will become reality,” Vladimir Makei concluded.
