Makei: Belarus will follow a multipronged policy relying on the country’s interests

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – Belarus will follow a multipronged policy, Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei said in an interview to the Belarus One TV channel as he commented on one of the issues discussed during the President’s open dialogue with journalists on 29 January, BelTA has learned.

“We will follow a multipronged policy relying on the interests of the country and its people,” he explained.

According to Vladimir Makei, “idle talks about swaying between the East and the West usually emerge ahead of important events in the country and are used by certain political forces.”

The Foreign Minister also commented on the statement that Belarus had used the situation in Ukraine to improve its relations with the West. “I am surprised with such a presentation of the issue. We are deeply concerned with what is happening in Ukraine, and we are interested in peace and stability there. Our sincere position in respect to Ukraine just simplified the understanding by Europeans and Americans of our stance in the foreign policy,” Vladimir Makei stressed.
