Makei: Belarus set to strengthen cooperation with UN in countering challenges

MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – Belarus is set to further intensify cooperation with the United Nations and all countries without exception in countering modern challenges and threats, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition celebrating the 70th anniversary of the United Nations and Belarus’ membership in the Organization on 23 October, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei noted that the exhibition is a continuation of a series of events organized in Belarus to mark the 70th anniversary of the Organization. Another important event was the ceremony to plant Tree of Peace and Sustainable Development in the Loshitsa Park in Minsk attended by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 23 October.

The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that the exhibition was prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN Office in Belarus, and the Belarusian news agency BelTA. He stressed that it reflects the rich experience that Belarus has gained over the years of cooperation with the United Nations.

Vladimir Makei pointed out that over the 70 years the Organization has reached considerable results. However, there is still much to be done to counter the emerging global challenges.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also hosted a dedication ceremony for a stamp honoring the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. The stamp was issued by the national postal service Belpochta jointly with the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The dedication ceremony was attended by UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus Sanaka Samarasinha.

Works by finalists of the national children's drawing contest United Nations Through Children's Eyes were put on display as part of the event. The contest was organized by the National Arts Center for Children and Youth jointly with the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
