Makei: Belarus is interested in EU-EEU direct dialogue

MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in establishing a direct dialogue between the European Union (EU) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) for discussing long-term cooperation prospects, Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei said during his working visit to Germany which continues until 8 February, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

On the first day of his visit Vladimir Makei made a speech at the German Council on Foreign Relations and held meetings with the members of German business community organized by the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations.

Attending the event at the German Council on Foreign Relations were officials of federal authorities, Bundestag MPs, representatives of political foundations and other institutions of German expert community, which take part in forming Berlin’s position on Belarus. Vladimir Makei outlined Belarus’ views on the issues of regional security and international agenda. The Foreign Minister emphasized Belarus’ important stabilizing role in the region, mentioned the prospects of the Belarusian-German relations and dialogue between Belarus and the EU, and answered the questions of the experts.

During the meeting with members of the German business community, the emphasis was made on presenting the investment potential of the Republic of Belarus taking into account the country’s participation in the Eurasian integration processes. The Belarusian side pointed out its interest in establishing a direct dialogue between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union in discussing long-term cooperation prospects. The participants of the meeting made an analysis of the current state and prospects of trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Germany. The Belarusian delegation answered the questions of representatives of big German companies working with Belarus or planning to entry the Belarusian market.

While in Berlin, the Foreign Minister held several meetings to discuss the opportunities of strengthening the Belarusian-German cooperation in various fields.

On 6-8 February Vladimir Makei will take part in the 51st Munich Security Conference, hold a number of bilateral meetings to discuss the development of political, trade and economic relations between Belarus and Germany, as well as several other partner countries.
