Makei: Belarus grieving together with Russians over plane crash victims
MINSK, 26 December (BelTA) – Belarusians are grieving together with Russians over the plane crash victims, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told reporters when visiting Russia's Embassy in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
Many people came to the Embassy to commemorate the victims, Vladimir Makei said. They came not because someone told them to. “They came because they wanted to. Belarus shares the grief of the Russians,” Vladimir Makei said. “’Brotherhood’ is not an empty word for us. The Belarusians have it in their hearts,” he stressed.
“It has been sad to see our neighbors having to deal with a series of misfortunes recently. We express our heartfelt sympathy for the Russian people. They say it is a leap year. Maybe God punishes us for the mistakes that we make in life. Therefore, we probably need to pause and reflect on the fact that a human life is the most important thing. Everything else pales in comparison to it,” Vladimir Makei said.
“We are grieving together with our brothers,” Vladimir Makei said.
Makei signs book of condolences at Russian Embassy in Minsk
MINSK, 26 December (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei visited the Russian Embassy in Minsk on 26 December to sign the book of condolences for the victims of the Tu-154 plane crash near Sochi on 25 December, BelTA has learned.The minister expressed heartfelt condolences over the tragedy and extended sincere sympathy to the Russian people. “It was with great sadness that we, in Belarus, learned the news of the plane crash that claimed the lives of 92 people, among whom were the worthiest representatives of the Russian people. Their death is an irreparable loss for Russia and us all. Our hearts are filled with sorrow and sincere sympathy,” Vladimir Makei wrote.
Vladimir Makei told reporters that Belarusians are grieving together with the Russians. He laid flowers at the Russian Embassy. People have already brought many flowers and lit candles near the embassy.
Representatives of companies and enterprises, organizations, ministries, as well as regular citizens come to make an entry in the book of condolences.
