Makei: Belarus and the West have every chance to build normal relations

NEW YORK, 29 September (BelTA) – Belarus and the West have every chance to build normal relations today, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told BelTA.

“It was not our fault that the relations between Belarus and the United States, European partners deteriorated. We can take a look at the history of the relations and everything will be clear. However, we will not look back. We need to look forward,” the minister said.

“I believe that today we have real chances and prospects to build normal relations with the United States, the European Union and diversify our foreign policy, foreign economic activity,” said Vladimir Makei.

The minister said that he had a number of meetings with European counterparts, representatives of the U.S. Department of State at the UN headquarters to discuss the current state of relations and prospects for their normalization.

“All the parties would like this positive atmosphere which we have in our relations now to remain in place, to continue so that we could succeed in reaching the goal we have set forth, namely to normalize the relations between Belarus and the EU, the United States,” the minister stressed.
