MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – Alexander Lukashenko was a good, but a bit mischievous student, former homeroom and math teacher of the Belarusian president Tatiana Karpechenko told reporters on 1 September, BelTA has learned.

According to the teacher, Alexander Lukashenko was among the best students in the class and enjoyed respect of other children. “He always studied well, took part in all our school events and often joined our hiking tours. Back then we often helped with harvesting and he did that, too,” Tatiana Karpechenko said.

She noted that back then no one could ever imagine that Alexander Lukashenko would become the country’s president. “He was an ordinary village boy. He joined my class in his fifth year at school. He played harmless tricks sometimes, like everyone did, but after all, he rose to presidency. Well done! We made some contribution to that, too,” the teacher believes.

After Alexander Lukashenko became president, he often met with his former teachers while visiting his native land. “We, teachers, are very happy that the president studied at this school,” she emphasized.

Tatiana Karpechenko’s husband was a history teacher at the same school. When the couple discussed school news in a family circle, the man always mentioned the great performance in history of the young Lukashenko. “He would always say that Lukashenko is the best in history,” she noted.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko attended a back-to-school ceremony at the Alexandria secondary school in Shklov District to mark Knowledge Day on 1 September. After the concert, the president visited the school’s former building that now houses the local lore museum and his former classroom. Alexander Lukashenko talked to students and his teachers. The head of state told the children about the time when he studied and taught at school.

Tatiana Karpechenko also attended the meeting. She reminded that she will turn 95 years on 14 January and invited the president to attend her birthday celebrations. The head of state said that he will try to visit her on this day.
