Lukashenko wants higher living standards for Belarusians

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – The state must fulfill its obligations to people, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at a government session held on 3 May to discuss Belarus’ social and economic development, BelTA has learned.

“I would like the prime minister to tell us about the projected growth of people’s wages and pensions,” the head of state said. “How are we going to raise the efficiency of the budget system to ensure social standards in the country? Are the proposed measures enough to reduce the state debt?”

Alexander Lukashenko also asked the economy minister to inform him about the measures that should be taken for faster economic growth. “What keeps this growth down today? The foundation of economic policy is unshakeable. If you see the need for transformations in any field (the economy, social life, especially manufacturing enterprises), you must always remember about social responsibility and take the interests of people into account,” the Belarusian leader said.

“When discussing topical issues, we must keep our obligations to people in mind and fulfill them. The goal is the same: to improve living standards on the basis higher competitiveness of the economy,” the head of state concluded.
