Lukashenko supports Russia’s efforts in response to U.S. peace plan for Ukraine

Lukashenko supports Russia’s efforts in response to U.S. peace plan for Ukraine

BISHKEK, 27 November (BelTA) – We support Russia’s efforts in response to the U.S. proposal on peace in Ukraine, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) summit in Bishkek on 27 November BelTA has learned.

“As for Belarus, and I can see it today from the reaction of all CSTO members, we support the efforts of Vladimir Putin and the Russian Federation in terms of its response to the United States’ proposal on the Ukraine settlement, on the peace deal. We very much hope that this will happen. Naturally, certain forces in Europe, as we see it, need to stop confrontation,” the Belarusian leader said.

“But I don’t understand how they can stop it, given their enormous expenditures on arms and rearmament. The momentum is already there. However, I believe that both the United States and Russia will be able to stop this process by agreeing with the Ukrainians on the peace deal,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

“Let me reiterate: we support your [Russia’s] efforts to reach a peace deal with Ukraine. As I said yesterday, if the Americans conduct themselves as diplomats and true lawyers, this peace plan will be finalized, as the main points have already been agreed upon,” the Belarusian leader said.

“Now, as they say, the ball is in Ukraine’s court. Given the current situation on the front lines, I believe Ukraine will have to agree to this peace plan; otherwise, it risks losing its statehood entirely,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
