Lukashenko praises Trump’s decent foreign policy stance

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – By focusing his foreign policy on peace, U.S. President Donald Trump maintains a very good, decent position, BelTA learned from Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko after negotiations with the Russian president in the Kremlin ended.

Aleksandr Lukashenko was asked whether Donald Trump is still committed to resolving the crisis in Ukraine because his rhetoric keeps changing all the time.

The head of state said: “I understand him. His tactic is to apply pressure and retreat, retreat and apply pressure, and go straight ahead in some places. A rebel. In the best sense of the word. I am quite similar to Trump in this regard and I call myself a Trumpist. Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] respects Trump a lot. His respect is at least as deep as mine. This is why we choose not to hear some statements. We understand that Trump’s situation is complicated. You understand it perfectly well. His supporter [Charlie Kirk] has been recently shot. A very sensible, smart, and ardent supporter. And he understands this signal. He received this signal and responds appropriately.”

“You need to understand what Trump states. You need to understand it comprehensively. And you shouldn’t attack Trump after any statement. After [Donald Trump called Russia] a paper tiger. Or after he said something else. Don’t. I’ve told the ‘big brother’ [President of Russia Vladimir Putin]: he is a great man! He acts calmly and purposefully. Yes, he said some things. Time will put everything in its place. Soon,” the Belarusian leader is convinced.

Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that Donald Trump maintains a very good and decent position: “He says that, for instance, he has stopped seven wars and conflicts. Maybe seven. Maybe six. But the key thing is peace, more peace, and peace all the way in foreign policy!”
