Lukashenko praises peace ideals of former head of Belarusian orthodox church

MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated Metropolitan Filaret, an honorary Patriarchal Exarch of all Belarus on the 50th anniversary since he was ordained as a bishop, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.

“You have dedicated your entire life to spreading the good word about orthodox values, to spreading your faith and to raising the younger generation in traditions of Christian love, morale, and mercy,” reads the congratulation. “You are one of the world’s most respected hierarchs in the orthodox world. Your selfless endeavors remain a shining example of relentless service in the name of peace and humanity. Belarus highly appreciates the results of your labors in promoting social service of the Church, preserving the traditions of religious tolerance and interreligious dialogue.”

Believers demonstrate sincere affection, respect, and gratitude to Metropolitan Filaret. “You have always been a kind shepherd and a teacher for everyone asking for advice and support. Your experience, life-long wisdom, and optimism are still in need today,” the congratulation reads.
