Lukashenko: Peace in Ukraine will not stop pressure on Belarus

MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) - Belarus will continue to face pressure even if a peace agreement is reached on Ukraine, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting of the Security Council in Minsk on 9 December, BelTA has learned.

“You see what forces are attempting to torpedo Ukraine peace efforts, even the American proposals for a peace deal. My point is, even if peace is somehow established in Ukraine today or tomorrow, things will not become easier for us. They will continue to put pressure on us. And especially these states... I don't want to call them names as I do not want to offend the people to the north or northwest,” the Belarusian head of state said.

“They are demanding something from us. What if Belarus were to create alternative governments and support 'freedom fighters'? They set up combat units there, they arm them. Remember khorugv units. They haven't gone anywhere. These are entire regiments, as they call them. Is that a joke? And they still have the nerve to demand something from us. Well, if they fund them, that’s their problem. If they have the money. But if it's directed against our country, how are we supposed to react to that?" Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
