Lukashenko: Market economy is no salvation without hard work

Lukashenko: Market economy is no salvation without hard work

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – The country’s social and economic development is impossible without hard work and no market mechanisms will save the day. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement as he met with representatives of the country’s largest state-run mass media on 10 April, BelTA has learned.

According to the head of state, Belarus did the right thing in the past when it refused to follow the path of shock therapy reforms and changes. “I don’t have to convince you of that anymore. Back then I had to tell everyone that we shouldn’t rush things, that we have our own peculiarities, our own way of life. That we are building our own country and don’t have to embrace shock therapy in Russia’s wake. The country would not exist today if we had decided in favor of the shock therapy policy in the past. There can be nothing without hard work. No market will save the day,” stated the Belarusian leader.

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that many Belarusians are genuinely proud of their country. “We have not created independent Belarus with idle chitchat. We have done it with real deeds. We are reckoned with!” said the president.
