Lukashenko gives interview to Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon

MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave an interview to well-known Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon, BelTA has learned.

The interview lasted about two and a half hours. It touched on the Belarusian leader's relations with former and current heads of other countries, the situation in the region, including the conflict in Ukraine,  foreign policy and also the development of Belarus, and the ongoing election campaign. The president spoke about Belarus’ pandemic response, gave candid answers to many personal questions, including the relationship in the family, and shared some memories from his childhood.

Dmitry Gordon shared his impressions of the interview and admitted that he had long wanted to do an interesting informal interview with the Belarusian head of state. “I am very glad that we have done it today. It was two and a half hours of informal communication, a sincere conversation about Belarus, Ukraine, and the humanity in general. I found the conversation unusually interesting and fascinating," he said. “I was interested in lively, eye-to-eye informal communication. I am very pleased that it worked out, very happy with the result.”

The journalist emphasized the great experience of Aleksandr Lukashenko, who negotiated with various world leaders and witnessed many historical events.

Dmitry Gordon is the founder and head of GORDON, one of the most popular and influential social and political online outlets in Ukraine, ranking in the top 15 news media in Ukraine. The journalist hosts several channels on YouTube, with the total number of subscribers exceeding 2.2 million. In 1995, he founded the newspaper Gordon's Bulvar which has been one of the most popular Ukrainian weeklies. Since 1996, he has hosted the popular program "Visiting Dmitry Gordon" aired on various Ukrainian TV channels.
