Lukashenko: Children's health at the heart of decision to modify school start time

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – Children's health was at the heart of the decision to modify school start times, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said when visiting one of Minsk schools on 26 May, BelTA has learned.

“We do we expect from this decision? I think the major concerns are children's health, and them feeling good in the classroom. For an individual to assimilate the new knowledge, he should feel good. The goal here is to take care of children's health and their ability to assimilate new information,” the head of state said.

Lukashenko: Children's health at the heart of decision to modify school start timeAs was reported to the head of state, 82.5% of secondary schools in the country will start at 9.00 the next academic year. Some 17.2% schools will start at 8.30 and 0.3% schools at 8.00 in the morning.

Lukashenko: Children's health at the heart of decision to modify school start time"We did a research. Indeed, there are schools that can start classes at 9 am. These are mostly rural schools and educational institutions with one-shift schooling,” Education Minister Igor Karpenko informed.

According to him, schools with two shifts are indeed facing some difficulties but they can be eased by making breaks between classes shorter.
